Reuben Amorim sacked as Manchester United Manager

Manchester United have dismissed head coach Ruben Amorim following a dismal run of results and growing tensions with the club’s top leadership.

The Portuguese tactician was summoned to a meeting with football director Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada at the club’s Carrington training complex on Monday morning, where he was informed of the decision to terminate his contract.

Amorim has since bid farewell to players and staff and departed the training ground.

He joined United from Sporting Lisbon slightly over a year ago amid optimism that he would spark a turnaround after the departure of former manager Erik ten Hag. However, the anticipated revival failed to materialise.

United sit sixth in the league table, a position confirmed after a third consecutive draw, this time against Leeds United on Sunday.

Several players struggled to perform consistently under Amorim’s leadership, while his continued reliance on a 3-4-3 system—despite its lack of success—drew criticism.

He also faced backlash from supporters and the media for failing to integrate promising academy talent, including England international midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
