Thousands of electricity customers across parts of western Kenya have been left without power following a fire outbreak at Musaga Substation in Kakamega.
In a customer alert issued Friday at 6:30 pm, Kenya Power confirmed that the fire had disrupted electricity supply to customers in Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, Siaya, and parts of Vihiga counties.

The utility company said it had already begun restoration efforts by rerouting power through alternative supply lines as technical teams worked to resolve the issue at the affected substation.
Kenya Power acknowledged the disruption caused to residents and businesses, expressing awareness of the inconvenience the outage had brought. The company noted that restoration would take place in phases as engineers worked to stabilize the network, explaining that electricity would be progressively restored to affected customers as work at the substation continued.
The cause of the fire was not disclosed. Kenya Power apologized to those affected, urging patience as restoration efforts proceed across the impacted counties.
