Three Foreign Suspects Arraigned for Cybercrime Offences

Earlier today, three suspects, namely Arjun Chauhan Surya, Aftab Afzal Abass, and Ajmal Amershi Karim, appeared before Chief Magistrate’s Court No. 5 at Milimani Law Courts under Case Reference CR122/31/2024 and Court File No. E090/2024.

They were brought to court to face charges related to the Publication of False Information, as outlined in Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act, No. 5 of 2018.

The arrest and subsequent arraignment of these individuals followed an operation conducted by officers from DCI Headquarters in Mombasa, Kitengela, and Nairobi. The suspects were apprehended after allegedly going into hiding following the reported offence, which had been filed by the complainant at Parklands Police Station.

Upon appearing before the court, the suspects pleaded not guilty to the charges. They were subsequently granted release on a bond of Sh200,000 each, with a requirement for a surety of similar value, or alternatively, they could opt for a cash bail of Sh100,000 each. Additionally, they were instructed to provide details of two contact persons.

The case has been slated for mention on February 12, 2024, in Court 5 at Milimani Law Courts, Nairobi. These legal proceedings mark a significant step in addressing instances of computer misuse and cybercrime, reflecting the commitment of law enforcement agencies to combatting such offences within the jurisdiction.
