Accompanied by First Lady Racheal Ruto, he is part of the summit’s attendees.

The theme of the summit, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations,” centers on discussions about reparatory justice, addressing historical injustices, and promoting racial healing across the continent.

The summit’s agenda underscores the African Union’s dedication to confronting historical wrongs, enhancing peace and security, and strengthening leadership to drive Africa’s development.

The high-level event, organized by the African Union (AU), gathers Heads of State, policymakers, and key stakeholders from across Africa to tackle critical continental challenges.

Ruto is backing former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission chairperson role.

On Wednesday, Odinga wrapped up his campaign for the AU leadership position with a visit to Bujumbura, Burundi, where he met with President Évariste Ndayishimiye. After their meeting, Odinga announced plans to head to Addis Ababa for the final leg of his campaign.

Odinga has been traveling across Africa, seeking support from African leaders. He will be competing against Djibouti’s Foreign Minister Mahamoud Ali Youssouf and Madagascar’s former Foreign Minister Richard Randriamandrato in the AUC chairperson election set for Saturday.
