Pauline Njoroge Slams MP Kururia Over Childless Women Remarks

Jubilee Party Deputy Organising Secretary Pauline Njoroge has criticized Gatundu North MP Elijah Kururia following his controversial remarks about women in their 30s who do not have children.

On her Facebook page on Sunday, December 28, 2025, Njoroge expressed concern over what she described as a decline in leadership standards within Kenya’s Parliament.

She recalled past leaders such as Tom Mboya, Mwai Kibaki, Argwings Kodhek, Grace Onyango, Martha Karua, Mutula Kilonzo, Ronald Ngala, George Anyona, and Chelagat Mutai, who exemplified leadership rooted in vision, service, and respect—values she argues are increasingly missing in current political discourse.

“Today, remarks like those made by Elijah Kururia force us to confront how low our nation has fallen,” Njoroge wrote.

“When a parliamentarian belittles women’s bodies, health, and life choices, he undermines not only women but the dignity of Parliament itself.” She reminded that the Parliament of Kenya’s motto calls for maturity, empathy, and responsibility from elected leaders.

Njoroge noted that Kururia represents Gatundu North because of the voters’ choice, emphasizing that leadership standards reflect citizens’ electoral decisions.

Kururia’s remarks, which sparked widespread backlash, included a Facebook post stating: “They take P2 to remain babyless and be considered YOUNG, HOT and MARKETABLE, na no Njagiri. Others abort to be seen as good, young, fresh and hot.” Many Kenyans condemned the comments as sexist, offensive, and inappropriate for a sitting MP.

Njoroge argued that if Kenya were serious about integrity and dignity in leadership, such statements would attract swift consequences, including calls for resignation. She also criticized attempts by some to defend Kururia.

In addition, Kururia had suggested that many women over 30 are childless because they have “normalised swallowing P2 pills and excess alcohol,” writing: “You are 30 years plus; Umekunywa P2 na Pombe, for ten years, Ndio usizae, Kwani hauna uterus? Ata huwezi zaa mamako? Wewe. In 10 years, you’ll be 40.”

Njoroge’s response underscores her call for respectful discourse and accountability among public leaders.
