The new head coach, Mildred Cheche, recently announced a provisional squad for the second-round qualifiers against DR Congo, scheduled for February 4 and February 11.
Kanyi commends Cheche for her appointment and praises the squad, stating that with proper preparation, they can defeat DR Congo and secure a spot in the junior World Cup. However, he raises concerns about potential challenges, pointing out that the players are students, and the clash between FIFA and school calendars may hinder their availability.
The former coach emphasizes the responsibility of the Football Kenya Federation to convince schools and parents about the tournament’s significance, making it easier for Cheche to work with a full squad. Notable players in the squad include Lorna Faith and Joy Angela Valencia, with Kanyi highlighting the need for cooperation to ensure the team’s success in the qualifiers.
Cheche, appointed as the new head coach, will be assisted by former Kenyan international Ann Aluoch, who also serves in a similar role for the senior women’s national team and the U15 women’s national team.
