On Saturday, the body of a 22-year-old male student was found floating in a dam on the university grounds. The student had been missing for several days before his body was discovered by fellow students early that morning.

Just two days earlier, on Thursday, another young male student was found hanging from a tree on the university campus.

The exact circumstances of both deaths remain unclear.

Embu West Subcounty Police Commander Zacharia Omae confirmed the incidents and stated that investigations are underway to determine the cause of death.

“We’ve identified the second victim as a 22-year-old second-year student who had been reported missing by his family at Kangaru Police Station,” Omae said.

Omae reassured the public that investigations are ongoing to determine if foul play was involved. “We ask students and the community to stay calm while we conduct a thorough inquiry. We also encourage anyone facing personal challenges to seek help and support,” he added.

The deaths have shocked the university community, leading to calls for improved security measures and better mental health resources. “It’s important to strengthen security and enhance mental health programs to support students,” Omae emphasized.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, the family of the second victim arrived at the university seeking answers but was asked to wait for the results of a postmortem, which is scheduled for Monday. The body has been taken to Embu Level Five Hospital mortuary for examination.
