The declaration now sets in motion the process of filling the seat, with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission expected to announce a by-election date. By law, the poll must be conducted within 90 days of the vacancy.

This gazettement marks the formal start of preparations, prompting political parties to begin lining up candidates for what is shaping up to be a highly contested race in Nyandarua County.

The United Democratic Alliance has already signaled its intention to field a candidate, with more than 10 aspirants reportedly seeking the party’s ticket. Nomination timelines are yet to be announced.

Given the seat’s political weight in the region, the by-election is expected to attract stiff competition from multiple parties looking to expand their influence.

The contest is also being viewed as a key test of political strength and voter mood in the aftermath of Kiaraho’s death.

Meanwhile, allies of Rigathi Gachagua are eyeing the race as a chance to secure representation, with indications that opposition figures could unite behind a single candidate to boost their chances against dominant parties.

On the other side, Jubilee and UDA are expected to rely on their regional heavyweights as they prepare for a closely watched battle.

Further details, including the official election timetable, voter updates, and campaign period, will be announced once the electoral body issues a formal notice.
