ODM Moves 20th Anniversary Finale to November

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has postponed its 20th anniversary grand celebrations in Mombasa, moving the highly anticipated event from October to November to allow more counties across the country to participate.

In a statement on Friday, ODM@20 Planning Committee Chairman and National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed confirmed the shift after a consultative meeting with party leader Raila Odinga at Serena Hotel in Nairobi.

The celebrations, initially scheduled for October 10–12 in Mombasa, will now take place from November 14–16, 2025.

Junet explained that the change was prompted by strong calls from counties that had not yet hosted ODM@20 activities, with members urging for inclusivity to ensure more supporters could be part of the milestone.

“To date, the ODM@20 celebrations have successfully been hosted in Busia, Wajir, Kisii, and Narok counties. However, there remains a strong call from other regions across the country for us to extend this historic commemoration to their areas as well,” he said.

Under the revised calendar, ODM has lined up regional events leading up to the Mombasa finale. These include an ODM@20 soccer tournament on October 9–10, a rally in Kajiado on October 15, celebrations in Turkana on October 26, a major event in Kilifi’s Magarini constituency on November 2, and a final stop in Nairobi on November 9.

Junet emphasized that the postponement should not be seen as a setback but rather as a strategy to broaden the party’s outreach and reinforce its founding principles.

“We wish to assure our members, supporters, and the general public that the postponement is meant to strengthen our outreach, deepen inclusivity, and ensure that this milestone in our party’s history is celebrated by all Kenyans,” he said.

The Mombasa grand finale is expected to draw national and regional leaders, party stalwarts, and thousands of supporters, marking two decades since the party’s formation.

ODM maintains that the 20th anniversary is both a celebration of its achievements and a recommitment to its values of unity, democracy, and participation as it looks ahead to shaping Kenya’s political future.
