Former Member of Parliament for West Mugirango, Vincent Kemosi, has declined his nomination as High Commissioner to Ghana, citing personal and pressing family matters.
Kemosi was expected to undergo vetting by the Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday but communicated his decision to decline the invitation via a letter.
In his correspondence, Kemosi expressed regret for not being able to appear before the committee due to personal family obligations, which hinder him from taking up the position of High Commissioner to Ghana as nominated by the President on March 9, 2024.
It’s uncommon for individuals to turn down presidential appointments in this region, with the prevailing notion being that such opportunities are not refused. Consequently, Kemosi opted to save the committee’s time by informing them of his decision.
Committee Chairperson, Nelson Koech, confirmed Kemosi’s withdrawal from consideration for the Ambassadorial position in Accra, Ghana.
The Committee has been conducting vetting sessions for President William Ruto’s envoy nominees in recent weeks. Last week, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) raised integrity concerns regarding three out of the 27 ambassadorial nominees. Among them was Joash Arthur Maangi, a former Kisii governor, who is under investigation for his involvement in the NHC Housing Project.
