‘No Beef’: Junet Says Rift with Sifuna Is ‘Nothing Personal’

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has dismissed reports of a fallout with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, describing their disagreements as differences in opinion rather than personal conflict.

Speaking to Citizen TV’s JK Live on Wednesday night, Junet said, “No, nothing serious. It’s just a divergence of opinion. He sees things one way, I see them another. Nothing personal.”

He stressed that while he and Sifuna may have different viewpoints, the final decisions of their party, ODM, remain binding.

“The party’s decision will prevail in the end. We can have our own opinions, but when the party decides, we all abide by it,” Junet said, paying tribute to the late Raila Odinga’s leadership.

When asked if the disagreements resembled the 1990s split between Ford Kenya and Ford Asili, Junet said the situations were different. He pointed out that the Ford split was driven by presidential ambitions, whereas ODM has a clear constitutional framework guiding leadership decisions.

“Our constitution is very clear. If we were to field a candidate, it would be Oburu Odinga, our designated presidential candidate. The rest are just sharing opinions,” he explained.

Junet also addressed circulating allegations that he misappropriated election funds, firmly rejecting the claims.

“I did not take agents’ money. Baba lost the elections because some people didn’t vote for him, not because of me,” he said.

Throughout the interview, Junet highlighted his loyalty to ODM and commitment to party processes, framing differences with colleagues as a normal part of political life. He urged that personal disputes should not overshadow collective decision-making.

Junet also explained his absence from the delegation that travelled to India to accompany the body of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He said he was undergoing medical treatment at the time and was unfit to travel.

Reflecting on his long political association with Raila, Junet described him as a mentor and pivotal figure in his career.

“The day I was discharged from the hospital is the same day we met Raila at Serena Hotel,” he said, noting that a medical procedure prevented him from joining the delegation as planned.
