In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police and copied to President William Ruto, Gachagua outlined a series of incidents he believes point to threats against his life.
He cited an event on November 28, 2024, when he was attacked during a funeral in Limuru, Kiambu County, describing it as a failed assassination attempt. He expressed concern over the lack of legal consequences for those responsible.
Gachagua further alleged that on December 19, 2024, while in Makueni County, he was followed for more than 150 kilometers by an unmarked vehicle under unclear circumstances.
He also claimed that members of his family have been shadowed by suspected National Intelligence Service agents driving unmarked vehicles with suspicious number plates.
On December 28, 2024, Gachagua said a criminal gang disrupted his meeting in Shamata, Nyandarua County. He alleged that a teargas canister was hurled at him to disperse his supporters and possibly create an opportunity for an assassination.
Additionally, he stated that his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, was attacked during a prayer rally at Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri town on January 18, 2025. Gachagua said she had to be evacuated by private security, adding that he had skipped the event after receiving a security warning.
“As a responsible citizen, I chose not to attend to avoid a situation that could have led to unrest—something our country cannot afford,” he stated.
