Mukiria Technical Training Institute in Meru County is gearing up to provide virtual welding courses in collaboration with partners from Poland, represented by Toolkit and Dig In Vision. The School Principal, Mr. Michael Maina, anticipates that this collaboration will usher in a groundbreaking era in welding training early next year.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Mr. Maina stated, “This marks a significant achievement for our institution and will elevate our standards. We extend our gratitude to Meru County Assembly Speaker Mr. Ayub Bundi, who played a crucial role in advocating for this collaboration. We commit to working with other like-minded partners to ensure success in our endeavors.”
During the training, students will be exposed to the latest welding techniques, arming them with skills that meet international standards. Mr. Bundi, terming this training as a game-changer, revealed plans to expand it to other regions in the county, aiming to benefit 100–200 youth.
Mr. Bundi also shared that the program is set to include Solar Technology training in the near future, enhancing the trainees’ desirability in both local and international job markets.
Mr. Maina emphasized the use of Virtual Reality Technology in teaching technical skills, highlighting its potential to reduce training material costs and spark curiosity among students.
“The training will broaden our students’ perspectives, and we welcome more individuals to take advantage of this golden opportunity at our institutions,” said Mr. Maina.
Deputy Principal Ms. Karwitha Nkarichia urged the local community to construct modern hostels to accommodate the growing number of students and teachers, especially with the introduction of new courses. She noted the challenge faced by many students and staff who lack proper accommodation, resulting in long commutes to find housing.
“The student population has significantly increased due to the institution’s rigorous training and valuable, marketable courses. Therefore, we require additional facilities to accommodate them and alleviate the issue of commuting long distances in search of accommodation,” expressed Ms. Nkarichia.
