Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has announced that the Mombasa county government intends to dedicate a road to Kenya’s first Vice-President, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, in recognition of his significant contributions.
Nassir emphasized the importance of remembering Jaramogi, one of the country’s founding fathers, and praised him as a statesman who fearlessly defended Kenya’s multiparty democracy.
Speaking at Ofafa Memorial Hall during the 30th Anniversary of Jaramogi in Kisumu, Governor Nassir also expressed a desire for the next anniversary celebration to take place in the Coastal region, extending an invitation for subsequent events to be held in all 47 counties.
Jaramogi, appointed minister for home affairs in 1963, later became vice president in 1964 under the founding father, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
