Radio personality Mike Mondo has responded to persistent comparisons with Maina Kageni by radio listeners, clarifying that while he appreciates being seen as a compliment to the renowned radio host, he remains his own individual.
Acknowledging the constant comparisons, Mondo stated, “It’s OK. I feel like it’s a compliment because he is a great radio host, but I will never be Maina.”
In a conversation with a local media, Mondo discussed his increased presence on the Morning Show on Classic 105, a program traditionally hosted by Maina Kageni.
He explained, “We are trying to see how that breakfast show will be. We are trying to see how to diversify.”
Although not confirmed, speculation has arisen that Mondo might be groomed to replace Maina Kageni upon his retirement. Maina had previously announced his intentions to retire and relocate to the US in 2022.
Maina disclosed his plans to run a club in Miami during a radio segment on ‘Maina and King’ang’i in the Morning,’ stating, “Come next year I am done. I am retiring from this job, I plan on running a club in Miami.”
When asked about his living arrangements, Maina mentioned that he already owns a condo in the US.
