Ruto Congratulates President Samia Suluhu on Her Reelection

President William Ruto has congratulated Tanzania’s President-elect Samia Suluhu Hassan following her victory in the recently concluded general elections.

According to Tanzania’s electoral commission, President Suluhu — who first assumed office in 2021 after the passing of the late John Magufuli — secured a decisive win with more than 98% of the votes cast.

In a statement released on Monday, President Ruto said:

“On behalf of the Government and the people of the Republic of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I extend warm congratulations to Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan on her re-election in the General Election held on 29 October 2025.”

Ruto lauded the strong and historic ties between Kenya and Tanzania, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation under the East African Community (EAC).

“Kenya and Tanzania share deep historical bonds and a common vision for prosperity and stability, grounded in our shared heritage and regional integration,” he added.

The Kenyan Head of State also urged Tanzanians to maintain peace and uphold democratic values amid ongoing post-election demonstrations sparked by allegations of electoral malpractice.

He called on political leaders and citizens to resolve disputes through dialogue and tolerance, noting that peace and respect for the rule of law are vital for national stability.

“I urge the patriotic people of Tanzania to embrace peace and dialogue in addressing any grievances, for the sake of democracy and stability,” Ruto said.

He reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to working closely with Tanzania and other EAC member states in advancing regional unity and development.

“Kenya stands ready to engage constructively towards a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated East Africa,” he affirmed.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) and other East African civil society groups have raised concerns over reports of human rights abuses during the Tanzanian elections.

In a joint statement, they condemned alleged arbitrary arrests and disappearances of opposition figures, saying such actions threaten the principles of justice and democracy that guide the East African Community — claims that Tanzanian authorities have previously denied.
