Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai of UDA and nominated ODM senator Beth Syengo have been tasked with leading extensive government initiatives in Ukambani.
The announcement came during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Friday.
The pair will spearhead efforts to foster civic participation and ensure the goals outlined in the MoU between Ruto and Raila are achieved.
“We are committed to representing this broad agenda, making sure the voices of Ukambani residents are heard loud and clear,” said Mbai.
The MoU focuses on key areas such as the implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, promoting inclusivity, strengthening devolution, and safeguarding the livelihoods of youth. It also addresses critical issues like national debt, corruption, government efficiency, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
Mbai, who serves as UDA chairman in Kitui County and is a prominent regional figure, joined Syengo in vowing to transform Ukambani’s political landscape. They emphasized that their collaboration is about reshaping governance to better address the needs of the people.
The MoU, signed by Ruto and Raila with their respective party officials present, outlines a commitment to fully implement the NADCO report as the first step. The second key focus will be advancing inclusivity in all aspects of public life.
Both leaders acknowledged that despite the Constitution’s clear provisions for the rights of minorities and marginalized communities, much more needs to be done to enforce these rights and fully realize the spirit of the Constitution after nearly 15 years.
“Kenya belongs to all people, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, generation, or geography. Every Kenyan is equal and entitled to fair allocation of resources and opportunities in public appointments,” the MoU states.
