A Meru resident relinquished his AK47 rifle to Bishop Nathan Kirimi of Jesus Winner’s church in Meru as a symbolic act of repentance and newfound faith.
After a church service, the individual, who had experienced a spiritual transformation during the sermon, approached the bishop and confessed to possessing the firearm at home, expressing a desire to part ways with it.
Following this encounter, Bishop Kirimi promptly handed over the firearm, concealed in a jacket and sisal bag, to the authorities at Imenti Police Station, where he provided a statement regarding the incident.
Ezekiel Chepkwony, the Imenti North Police Commander, disclosed that the congregant entrusted the rifle to the pastor, highlighting the significance of surrendering illegal weapons in the community.
Chepkwony commended Bishop Kirimi for his cooperation in reporting the matter and emphasized the importance of continued efforts by residents to surrender illicit firearms and report any instances of weapon usage in the area.
Regarding the firearm surrendered, Chepkwony noted its rusty condition and the presence of a magazine loaded with 17 rounds of 7.62 mm special ammunition, indicative of prior use. He announced plans for intensified measures to identify and apprehend individuals unlawfully possessing weapons, with a commitment to reducing armed incidents in the region.
