Lorna Omondi: The Hidden Story of Google’s Operational Head

In the wake of the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the life of the esteemed General Francis Ogolla, attention has shifted not only to his public persona, accomplishments, and personal life but also to the remarkable journey of his family.

General Ogolla is survived by his wife Aileen, their two children, Lorna Omondi and Joel Rabuku, as well as a daughter-in-law and a grandson.

Amidst the profound national mourning, many are now focusing on honoring the legacies of both the late general and the exceptional woman he raised.

Here are the less publicized details shedding light on Lorna’s personal journey:

Lorna currently serves as the Head of Operational Excellence for DC Equipment Supply Chain at Google in the San Francisco Bay Area, a role she has held for more than a year according to her LinkedIn profile.

Her responsibilities encompass overseeing business operations, strategic planning, and data management systems, tools, and processes within the equipment supply chain division. In her leadership role, she steers the vision, transformation, and overall direction of her team.

Between 2001 and 2003, Lorna held a senior lead position in supply planning at Google Data Centers, where she managed global supply-side capacity planning and operations, optimizing significant investments annually.

She led a team responsible for developing global recommendations for data center infrastructure, guiding decisions on location, timing, and type of construction.

Prior to her tenure at Google, Lorna worked as a Management and Economic Consultant at Greylock McKinnon Associates, where she implemented linear optimization algorithms to support clients in understanding the impacts of energy projects and provided valuation support during legal proceedings.

Additionally, she served as an analyst at Charles River Associates, where she conducted analyses to assist clients in determining optimal investment locations and potential economic benefits.

Lorna’s academic journey commenced at Kenya High School in Nairobi before she pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States.

In 2014, she furthered her studies at the University of Cambridge, obtaining an MPhil in Management Science and Operations with a focus on entrepreneurship, innovation management, and various analytical methodologies.

Subsequently, in 2015, she earned a Master’s degree in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University, specializing in operations and analytics, which covered topics such as optimization, decision analysis, supply chain management, and machine learning.

Lorna fondly remembers her father as a beacon of excellence, a deeply empathetic leader, and a statesman.
