Multiple personnel from KWS and KFS have been deployed to help control the spread of a fire that ignited in separate locations and is rapidly spreading.
Lucy Mwati, KWS Senior Assistant Director in the Mountain Conservation Area, stated that teams are actively working to combat a fire in the Embaringo section of Aberdare Forest. She mentioned that the fire has been ongoing for a week and reappears in different areas whenever it is controlled.
“We’ve been dealing with fires in the Aberdares since last week. Each time we contain one, another flares up due to the high temperatures,” she explained. “The fire in the northern Embaringo section remains active, and efforts to suppress it are continuing.”
In Mt Kenya Forest, conservationists are still working to put out a fire in the Burguret area. The blaze, which started on Monday in one area, has spread to others. While the fire has been contained in one section, efforts are ongoing in the other areas.
KWS officials stated that a detailed report will be released soon regarding these incidents, which have become increasingly common in forests across the region.

Similar fires have recently been reported in conservancies in central Kenya, sparking concerns about the impact of ongoing dry conditions on local forests. In particular, officials have been struggling to contain fires in parts of Isiolo forests. Meteorologists have pointed to the hot weather as a contributing factor to the rise in fires, with fears that the destruction may continue in the coming days.
