A suspected terrorist has been sentenced to a 30-year prison term by a court in Busia, nearly a year and a half after the trial began in December 2021.

Jackton Jacob Kanoti, also known as Abdul Hakim, was apprehended in Siaya for his affiliations with both Al Shabaab and the Islamic State of Iraq.
At the time of his arrest, he was discovered in possession of materials associated with terrorist activities, as well as a mobile phone used to access terrorism-related content via videos and chats from various telegram groups, according to the DCI.
The Busia court, in its judgment, found Kanoti guilty based on the compelling evidence presented during the trial.
The court emphasized that the prosecution’s evidence was both credible and consistent, leading to the conviction and subsequent 30-year imprisonment of the accused.
