A Kenyan student studying in the UK has secured a remarkable $50,000 (Ksh 7 million) grant to pioneer a groundbreaking project in Nairobi.
Jesse Mugambi, currently pursuing a master’s degree in sustainable design at Brighton University, emerged victorious in an international competition supporting nightlife initiatives.
Outshining 300 competitors from 50 nations, Jesse clinched the joint top spot in the ‘Save The Night’ competition, organized by the renowned spirit company Jagermeister.
Alongside a fellow winner from Northern Ireland, Jesse will share the generous $109,000 (Ksh. 15 million) prize pool, securing $50,000 (Ksh. 7 million) for his innovative venture.
Jesse’s brainchild, dubbed Studio Can-V, cultivated during his undergraduate tenure and now maturing into a master’s project at the University of Brighton, promises to revolutionize Nairobi’s entertainment scene. The envisioned space will transform from a dynamic studio nurturing young DJs by day to a vibrant nightclub pulsating with energy by night.
Set to be constructed by local craftsmen in Nairobi, Jesse’s ambitious design employs repurposed shipping containers sourced from Mombasa port, integrating sustainability into its very core.
Utilizing renewable materials such as steel tubes for structural integrity and aluminum panels for doors, procured from Nairobi-based suppliers, the project embodies a commitment to eco-conscious construction practices.
With Studio Can-V poised to redefine urban entertainment paradigms, Jesse Mugambi’s vision stands as a testament to ingenuity and sustainability, promising a bright future for Nairobi’s nightlife.
