The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released its weekly weather outlook, cautioning that the majority of the country will experience sunny and dry conditions during the first week of December, even as isolated showers persist in select regions.
According to the update issued on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, most counties will continue to record little to no rainfall as Kenya transitions into a drier phase following the peak of the short rains.
Sunny Conditions Take Over
KMD notes that while dry conditions will dominate, light to moderate rainfall is still expected in parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, and the South-Eastern Lowlands.
These showers are attributed to the gradual weakening of the short rains season, with overall rainfall amounts steadily decreasing.
Significant Temperature Swings Expected
The weatherman has also projected varying temperature patterns across the country.
Daytime temperatures are expected to rise above 30°C in several regions, including:
The Coast, Northeastern and northwestern Kenya, The southeastern lowlands, Sections of the Rift Valley and Parts of Western Kenya.
These rising temperatures are consistent with typical early-December warming trends.
Conversely, nighttime temperatures may fall below 10°C in the Central Highlands, the North and Central Rift Valley, parts of Western Kenya, and areas near Mt Kilimanjaro. KMD is advising residents in these regions to prepare for chilly nights and early mornings.
Review of Last Week’s Conditions
Last week’s observations indicated a general reduction in rainfall across the country, with only a few stations receiving substantial precipitation.
Kavingo Station in Kitui County recorded the highest weekly rainfall at 45.9 mm.
Mandera reported the highest temperature, hitting 37.2°C on November 25.
Nyahururu registered the lowest temperature, dropping to 4.6°C on November 27.
These findings signal Kenya’s shift from the short rains peak toward a more prolonged dry period.

Dry Start to December
As the country moves further into the festive season, KMD forecasts a relatively dry start to December, mirroring conditions experienced last month. The department advises the public and relevant sectors—especially agriculture and water management—to take note of the evolving weather patterns.
