The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a notice on the closure of part of the Mombasa–Nairobi (A8) Highway to allow for ongoing construction works.
According to the announcement, the affected stretch is between Makupa Bridge and the Changamwe Interchange. The closure will take effect from Saturday, August 23, 2025, and remain in place until Sunday, September 7, 2025.

KeNHA Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli explained that the traffic disruption is necessary to facilitate road construction and drainage improvements aimed at enhancing smooth connectivity between the two points.
Motorists have been advised to adhere to the traffic management plan in place and cooperate with police and marshals deployed to manage flow along the route.
The announcement comes barely a month after the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) declared a six-month closure of a section of Links Road in Nyali, Mombasa County, from August 1, 2025, to January 30, 2026.
That closure, KURA said, was to allow for major drainage and road upgrades to resolve perennial flooding challenges in the area.

KURA, the state agency tasked with managing and maintaining urban roads, oversees about 4,625 km of both paved and unpaved roads across Kenya’s towns and municipalities. The authority plays a central role in improving urban mobility, boosting socio-economic growth, and raising the quality of life for city residents.
