Initial observations indicated that the girl appeared to be pregnant and had bruises on her left leg and back, as well as marks resembling fingerprints on her left side, suggesting she may have struggled with an attacker.

Investigators also noted that the victim’s clothes were torn and partly pulled down to her waist, raising suspicions that she might have been assaulted before her death.

According to family members, the girl was last seen on the evening of March 8 at about 8 pm when she had been sent to a nearby shop to buy food items.

The family said she returned home with the groceries and later told them she was stepping out briefly, but she never came back.

Her body was discovered by her mother on Tuesday morning while the family was searching for her. Police documented the scene before moving the body to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Another Body Found in Migori

In a separate incident, police in Migori County are also investigating the death of a 23-year-old student whose body was found at Kuja Bridge along the Rongo–Migori Road.

The victim, identified as Edward Ochieng Otieno, a Form Three student at Rongo Day Secondary School, was discovered on Tuesday morning lying in a pool of blood near River Kuja, at the border between Rongo and Awendo sub-counties.

Police said the discovery was reported at around 11 am on March 10 by a traffic officer who noticed the body on the bridge and alerted officers from Kitere Police Station.

Authorities said the body had a deep cut on the head near the right ear, indicating the victim may have been attacked with a sharp object. The body was later identified by his father, Elijah Otieno.

Preliminary investigations show that the student was last seen alive on Monday at around 6 pm at Kabich mining site, where he had reportedly been working throughout the day.

Police recovered several items from the scene, including a mobile phone, a black backpack, and a damaged torch.

Inside the bag were partially used paracetamol and anti-malaria medication, along with three wet T-shirts, two wet trousers, a wet pair of shorts, sandals, and a padlock key.

Authorities said the motive behind the killing remains unknown, and the weapon used in the attack has not yet been recovered.

The body has been taken to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination as detectives continue investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
