Kalonzo: Why I Won’t Support Raila In 2027

Dr. Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper party, has declared that he will not endorse Raila Odinga’s presidential candidacy if Odinga decides to run again in 2027. According to Kalonzo, abandoning his own presidential aspirations would mean retiring from politics, and he emphasized that this is not an option for him. He asserted that President William Ruto should prepare for a strong competitor in the 2027 elections.

Kalonzo stated on NTV, “Giving up my presidential ambition (for Raila) will mean I go home. It’s as simple as that. Giving up my presidential ambition is not an option. The country is saying so, and this time he (William Ruto) better be ready.”

Expressing that Kenyans are seeking an alternative to the current administration, Kalonzo mentioned that he will make an announcement at the right time in the new year. He believes there is a need to create a competitive political landscape, stating, “Kenyans are crying out for an alternative. They can’t breathe.”

Highlighting his readiness for leadership, Kalonzo recalled his preparedness in the 2002 and 2013 elections, expressing confidence that he will be ready for the 2027 elections. He mentioned that even William Ruto acknowledged his candidacy in Homa Bay, suggesting that Ruto might eventually support him.

Kalonzo continues to position himself as the ideal candidate within the Azimio coalition after Raila Odinga’s unsuccessful fifth attempt at the presidency. He also announced plans to commence early campaigns in preparation for the 2027 general elections, with leaders from his Wiper party asserting that he is the most suitable candidate for the job.
