Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper Party, has entered the recent dispute between the Judiciary and the Executive, urging President Ruto’s administration to halt its “significant aggression on the Judiciary.”
Speaking at the JCM Church on the Eastern Bypass, Kalonzo addressed congregants on Sunday, accompanied by leaders who included Gideon Mulyungi (MP for Mwingi Central), Julius Ibrahim Mawathe (MP for Embakasi South), and Opiyo Wandayi (National Assembly Minority Leader and MP for Ugunja).
The gathering also included former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga and advocates Ndegwa Njiru and Lily Mburu from the Mount Kenya Jurists Forum, representing 400 lawyers.
Kalonzo emphasized the non-negotiable nature of the judiciary’s independence, referring to the Judicial Service Act of 2011. He asserted that there is a clear mechanism, as outlined in the act, to investigate corrupt judges and judicial staff.
The Wiper Party leader accused the Executive of using the fight against corruption as a pretext to mask its serious encroachment on the Judiciary.
Expressing additional concerns, Kalonzo addressed the continuous profiling of Mount Kenya youth, highlighting indiscriminate harassment by security forces and subsequent unjustified detentions.
He demanded an end to the arrests and profiling by security agencies.
