Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Mohamed Roba has been released on bail after spending two nights in police custody following his arrest in Nairobi.
On Thursday, the Mavoko Law Courts granted Roba a cash bail of Sh100,000 or an alternative bond of Sh200,000 with a surety of the same amount. Senior Principal Magistrate Derrick Kuto also lifted an earlier arrest warrant after Roba pleaded not guilty to two charges.

The court ordered the return of his seized mobile phone, personal car, and laptop, while setting the case mention for September 11, 2025, and hearing for October 29, 2025.
Roba faces two counts: unlawful use of county government vehicles and obstruction of a police officer. The charge sheet accuses him of illegally using two county-owned Toyota Land Cruiser Prados between July 18 and August 19, 2025, and of mobilising a group to prevent officers from repossessing one of the vehicles on July 20.

The magistrate declined a defence request to defer plea-taking, ruling that the charge sheet was valid. He clarified that a previous High Court order barring Roba’s arrest over other allegations did not apply to the current charges.
Magistrate Kuto further advised that allegations of assault during Roba’s arrest be reported to the relevant authorities for investigation.
The prosecution, which listed several police officers as witnesses, confirmed that the Isiolo County Government is the complainant in the case.
