Kitui: Pastor Involved in Robbery Fatally Shot by Police

In a dramatic turn of events, police in Kitui have fatally shot a pastor believed to be part of a gang involved in a robbery with violence incident at Kavisuni market in Kisasi district.

The identity of the pastor, initially unknown, was revealed at the scene of the shooting. Allegedly, he was among the perpetrators who raided a wholesale shop belonging to Muli Munyoki, robbing him at gunpoint.

In a startling revelation, it was discovered that the robbers were operating two churches in the Matinyani area of Kitui West, blurring the lines between their criminal activities and their role as preachers.

The deceased pastor, identified as Ezekiel Muinde Mwangangi, served at the Heaven City Chapel in the Soweto area while overseeing a new branch at Kauma Market.

During the robbery, the pastor was found armed with a toy pistol, a sharp dagger, and a fake police radio communication gadget. His accomplice, who managed to escape, is believed to be armed with a real firearm.

The robbery unfolded when the perpetrators posed as police officers investigating stolen goods, only to turn on the shop owner and his night guard, robbing them of cash and valuables.

Swift police response led to a confrontation, resulting in the fatal shooting of the pastor while his accomplice fled the scene with gunshot wounds.

The shocking revelation of the pastor’s involvement in criminal activities has left the community in disbelief. Investigations have since revealed that the pastor and his accomplice hired a motorcycle under false pretenses to carry out the robbery.

Authorities, including the Kitui County Director of Criminal Investigations, have confirmed ongoing investigations into the incident, with individuals connected to the crime being questioned.

Community leaders have expressed shock and dismay over the pastor’s dual identity as a preacher and a robber, highlighting the need for thorough scrutiny and vigilance within religious institutions.
