The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has announced that a by-election for the Emurua Dikirr Constituency will take place on May 14, 2026, where more than 45,000 registered voters are expected to elect a new Member of Parliament.
The seat became vacant following the death of former MP Johanna Ng’eno in a helicopter crash.

On the same day, the commission will also conduct by-elections for Porro Ward in Samburu County and Endo Ward in Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The process was initiated after Moses Wetang’ula issued the official writs on March 10, 2026, allowing the electoral commission to set the election date.
In a gazette notice, the commission confirmed that the by-elections will fill the positions of Member of the National Assembly for Emurua Dikirr Constituency and Members of County Assembly for Porro and Endo wards.
According to the election timetable released by the IEBC, public servants wishing to contest must resign within seven days, while individuals planning to run as independent candidates must not have been members of any political party for at least three months before the election.
Political parties intending to take part in the by-elections must submit the names of candidates participating in party primaries, along with the dates of the primaries, to the commission by March 25, 2026. Independent candidates are also required to submit their names and symbols to the commission by the same deadline.

Parties opting for indirect nominations must present their list of candidates to the commission by April 7, 2026.
IEBC chairperson Erastus Ethekon has appointed Caleb Siriba Gekendo as the returning officer for Emurua Dikirr, with Sylvia Jepchumba serving as deputy.
The electoral commission recently informed Parliament that it requires Sh59.38 million to conduct the Emurua Dikirr by-election. The funds were not included in the Supplementary I budget estimates, prompting the agency to request additional allocation from Parliament.
The parliamentary seat became vacant after Ng’eno died in a helicopter crash in Mosop on February 28.
