Detectives have arrested three suspects believed to be behind a string of robberies targeting wines and spirits shops in Nairobi and Kiambu counties.
The arrests followed a well-coordinated operation by a joint team of officers from the two counties after days of intelligence gathering and surveillance.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the trio belonged to a notorious gang that has been terrorising liquor business owners across the city and its outskirts.
“The suspects, who operated with military precision, were finally cornered after days of intense surveillance and coordinated intelligence work,” the DCI said.
Acting on a tip-off, detectives first struck in Ngara, where they arrested two key suspects. The duo reportedly tried to flee but were quickly subdued. A black Toyota Harrier, which they abandoned during the chase, was seized as crucial evidence.
The operation then extended to Njiru Makongeni, where another suspect was arrested. Detectives also recovered a Toyota Noah allegedly used to transport stolen alcohol.
“The car seats still smelled of freshly spilled liquor,” the DCI noted.
The search later moved to Mugutha, Ruiru — believed to be the hideout of the gang’s mastermind, who remains at large. Using a search warrant, detectives raided the compound and recovered several items, including two car seats from the seized Noah, a number plate, break-in tools, multiple mobile phones, and a hoodie matching one seen in CCTV footage from a recent robbery.
“Scattered across the compound were empty cartons of high-end liquor, showing evidence of the gang’s extensive looting,” DCI added.
Detectives also found 25 bulls suspected to have been stolen and hidden on the property. The animals were taken to Ruai Police Station as investigations to identify their owners continue.
Police have since intensified the manhunt for the gang leader, described as the key figure behind the violent robbery spree.
