The government has allocated Sh550 million to complete 162 civil servant houses in Makueni County, a project that has been stalled for over 30 years.
President William Ruto said the funding will revive the Civil Servants Housing Scheme, which has remained dormant since 1990.

Speaking during his development tour of the county, the President also unveiled plans to invest an additional Sh11 billion for the construction of 3,000 affordable housing units in Makueni.
While inspecting progress on the 755-unit Affordable Housing Project in Wote town, Ruto said the initiative is reshaping the town’s landscape and generating employment for local youth.
“This is what we have achieved in less than a year. Imagine the transformation we can realize in five, ten, or fifteen years if we stay the course,” he said at Kasikeu in Kilome Constituency, during the launch of his four-day development tour of the region.
The President was accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior, and Cabinet Secretaries Alfred Mutua (Labour), Alice Wahome (Lands), and Davis Chirchir (Roads), along with several principal secretaries, MPs, and MCAs.
During the visit, Ruto also commissioned the Sh1.9 billion Kasikeu and Mikuyu bridges and their connecting roads, projects expected to ease transport and curb recurrent flooding problems during the rainy season.

In Kibwezi West Constituency, the President launched the Sh1 billion, 20-kilometre Emali–Matiliku Road, part of the larger 42-kilometre Emali–Ukia corridor.

Additionally, Ruto announced that the government will connect 18,000 households across Makueni to electricity by June 2026, at a cost of Sh2 billion, as part of the ongoing effort to expand rural electrification and spur local development.
