Pastoralists and livestock traders are set to benefit from a Sh2.5 billion financing deal following a new partnership between Avenews, the Kenya Meat Commission (KMC), and the Kenya Livestock Marketing Council (KLMC). The initiative aims to provide flexible, trade-based capital to strengthen Kenya’s livestock value chain.
The agreement, signed by Avenews Kenya Managing Director Nancy Kinyanjui, KMC Managing Commissioner Maj. Gen. Jattani Gula, and KLMC CEO Abdikadir Mohamed, will offer working capital tied directly to livestock producers’ and traders’ daily transactions.

According to Kinyanjui, the project addresses a major challenge facing the sector — limited access to credit among pastoralist communities and small-scale livestock traders who often depend on informal trust systems rather than traditional collateral.
“Credit access has been a major hurdle for pastoralist and trading communities. This partnership introduces a financing model that mirrors how the livestock market actually works — fast, flexible, and based on trust,” she explained.
Through Avenews’ digital platform, farmers and traders will be able to access instant financing at the point of sale, enabling them to expand operations and strengthen supply chains.
“By aligning finance with actual trade activity, we’re helping producers, traders, and processors build resilient value chains and improve the quality and consistency of livestock supply,” she added.
KLMC CEO Abdikadir Mohamed noted that the partnership will boost liquidity and modernize livestock trade across Kenya’s arid and semi-arid areas.
The Sh2.5 billion fund will be implemented in 2025 and will target agri-SMEs, pastoral cooperatives, and individual traders nationwide.
“We’re ushering in a new era for Kenya’s livestock industry — one where finance keeps pace with trade,” Kinyanjui said. “Together with KMC and KLMC, we’re building a fair, inclusive system that rewards trust, innovation, and productivity.”
