Goodbye Traffic! Kiambu Road Set for Dual Carriageway

The government has approved the expansion of the 23.5-kilometre Muthaiga–Kiambu–Ndumberi Road into a dual carriageway in a move aimed at decongesting the busy Kiambu Road corridor.

According to a statement from State House, the upgraded highway will feature additional lanes, bypasses, loops, and access roads to improve traffic flow and significantly cut travel times.

“The project will also include non-motorised transport lanes and commuter facilities to boost safety and accessibility,” the statement added. T

he route serves densely populated areas such as Muthaiga, Runda, Ridgeways, and Kiambu Town, which often experience heavy traffic, particularly during rush hours.

The approval follows a recent Environment and Land Court decision that limited the use of Karura Forest land for the project to 0.1233 hectares, overturning an earlier authorization that had allocated 51.64 acres to the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).

The ruling came after a petition by the Green Belt Movement, which opposed the forest land allocation, citing lack of proper environmental and public consultations.
