UDA Summons Senator Orwoba Over Alleged Ties to Matiang’i

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) disciplinary committee has formally summoned Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, accusing her of actions that allegedly breach the party’s Code of Conduct.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the committee’s chairperson, Charles Njenga, the party highlighted three specific instances of what it described as “misconduct” by the senator.

The most notable of these was Orwoba’s attendance at the welcome ceremony for former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, as well as her participation in his homecoming celebration at Gusii Stadium.

The committee also expressed concerns over an interview Orwoba gave to Spice FM on April 22, in which she openly criticized the government’s labor mobility program, a major initiative of President William Ruto’s administration.

“Your involvement in and comments at the aforementioned events clearly reflect allegiance to another political movement, which is unbecoming and demonstrates disloyalty to the United Democratic Alliance Party, the party that nominated you to the position of Senator in the Senate of the Republic of Kenya,” the statement read.

The disciplinary committee has instructed Orwoba to appear before it on Friday, May 16, at 9:00 a.m., at the Hustler Plaza Fourth Floor Board Room.

During the hearing, she will be required to justify her actions and explain why disciplinary actions should not be taken against her.

The party also warned that if the committee finds her at fault, the matter will be referred to the National Executive Committee for further action, which could include punitive measures or even expulsion.

Orwoba has not yet publicly commented on the summons.

Matiang’i held a large homecoming event following months of speculation about his political plans. This event marked his return to Kenya and served as the launch of his 2027 presidential campaign.
