A statement from State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, released on June 29, confirmed that the President’s agenda will include pushing for key economic agreements and advocating for global financial reforms.

In the UK, Ruto will meet with newly elected Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to formalise the updated Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership 2025–2030.

The new five-year agreement centres on four main areas: trade, climate action, technology, and security. Its goal is to double trade between the two nations by 2030, promote digital skills among Kenyans, and enhance cooperation on regional stability, cybersecurity, and counter-terrorism.

As part of this renewed partnership, the UK plans to mobilise up to £1.5 billion in new investments for Kenya by 2030, targeting key sectors to drive economic growth.

One major initiative under the trade and green growth pillar is the Nairobi Railway City project, which is expected to modernise Nairobi’s Central Business District into a transport-focused urban hub.

During his UK visit, President Ruto will also witness Lloyd’s of London announcing plans to open a regional underwriting centre in Nairobi through the Nairobi International Financial Centre (NIFC), further positioning the city as a leading financial hub in Sub-Saharan Africa.

On technology, the two countries will deepen cooperation on Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies, with additional support earmarked for Kenyan start-ups and SMEs through joint public-private initiatives.

Before travelling to the UK, President Ruto will begin his tour in Seville, Spain, where he will participate in the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development.

There, he is expected to deliver a strong appeal for reforms in the global financial system, aimed at tackling critical challenges such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and biodiversity loss.

While in Spain, Ruto will also meet Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and King Felipe VI. Their discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in clean energy, youth empowerment, and building climate resilience.

Additionally, the President will co-chair a high-level session during the summit and hold bilateral meetings with other global leaders to bolster Kenya’s international partnerships.
