Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed his proposed priorities should he win the presidency in 2027, placing emphasis on reforms in education, healthcare, and taxation.
Speaking at a political rally in Ruiru, Kiambu County, Gachagua said that one of his first actions as president would be to restore and reinforce the free education initiative introduced by the late President Mwai Kibaki. He noted that despite the government’s commitment to free basic education, many families still struggle to afford school-related costs.
“My first agenda as president will be to ensure genuine access to free education for our children, in line with Kibaki’s vision,” he stated.
Gachagua also promised to overhaul the health sector, including reintroducing free maternity services to ease financial pressure on families and improve maternal and child health nationwide.
In addition, he pledged to eliminate the housing levy implemented by the current administration, claiming it burdens taxpayers unnecessarily. He argued that removing the levy would ease financial pressure on Kenyans already facing economic hardships.
“These are the burdens we need to remove if we want a country where people can prosper,” he told supporters.
These remarks come as Gachagua intensifies his 2027 presidential campaign, openly declaring his intention to challenge President William Ruto. He positioned himself as the candidate capable of addressing Kenya’s economic and social issues, claiming that his support base is steadily growing.
“The cure for Ruto is Riggy G,” he said, sparking cheers from the crowd.
As the race for 2027 begins to take shape, Gachagua’s pledges offer one of the clearest insights yet into his potential policy direction should he ascend to the presidency.
