[PHOTOS] Ruto Hosts 10,000+ Teachers, Vows Greater Support for Education

President William Ruto on Saturday praised teachers as the country’s “most valuable asset and true patriots,” pledging to make education a core focus of his administration.

Addressing over 10,000 teachers at State House in Nairobi, Ruto acknowledged their dedication, saying they play a crucial role in shaping Kenya’s future by going above and beyond for students.

He highlighted progress in the education sector over the past three years, including an increase in the education budget from Sh540 billion to Sh702 billion—the largest in Kenya’s history.

Ruto also said the government had streamlined the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), making it more effective for both learners and institutions.

To reduce overcrowded classrooms, he announced that 76,000 teachers have been recruited so far, with plans to reach 100,000 by January.

Other milestones mentioned included building 23,000 new classrooms and launching the Open University of Kenya.

The President also pointed to a revamped higher education funding model that directs financial support to students while strengthening universities and TVET institutions.

He reiterated his government’s commitment to strengthening education and workforce development as key drivers of national transformation.
