Gachagua Slams President Ruto’s State Address, Calls It ‘Useless’

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has sharply criticized President William Ruto, dismissing the State of the Nation address delivered in Parliament on Thursday as “a useless speech lacking substance.”

Addressing supporters during by-election campaigns in Mbeere North, Gachagua accused the President of delivering theatrics instead of tangible progress, claiming the speech failed to highlight meaningful achievements.

He further alleged that the government had mismanaged public funds and presided over “a period marked by lawlessness,” citing claims of abductions and insecurity that, according to him, contradict the President’s message.

“I want to ask Ruto and Kindiki, why waste KSh500 million in Mbeere, a place without water, electricity, or roads? If you truly cared, that money should have been used to bring real development to the people,” Gachagua said.

He also criticized the address for failing to reflect the everyday struggles of ordinary Kenyans.

Gachagua accused the government of voter bribery and intimidation in the ongoing campaigns, alleging that state-backed operatives were coercing voters to support the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Leonard Muthende.

“I have heard Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku telling people to vote for Muthende, take pictures, and then receive money later. That is false—after the election, nobody will pay,” he warned.

He urged supporters to use the November 27 by-election in Mt. Kenya to register their disapproval of President Ruto, accusing him of political betrayal and framing the election as a key “reckoning.”

Gachagua has been actively campaigning for Newton Kariuki, the Democratic Party (DP) candidate, marking his fourth day of rallies in the constituency. Earlier in the week, he held large gatherings at Ciangera shopping centre and Kavengero in Evurore ward, following door-to-door engagements.

He was accompanied by allied politicians, including former Cabinet Secretary JB Muturi, Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, Nyandarua Senator John Methu, and Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thangwa.
