Eight former officials from Isiolo County face charges of Ksh.58.6 million procurement fraud related to a fire engine tender.
They are part of a group of 13 suspected individuals who allegedly unlawfully awarded Drescoll Limited the contract for supplying the fire engine in the 2018/2019 financial year.
Three chief officers are among those accused of corruption, violating procurement laws, abusing office, and unlawfully acquiring public property. The accused individuals, after appearing before Isiolo Chief Magistrate Lucy Mutai, pleaded not guilty to the 12 charges.
Each of the accused has been granted release on a Ksh.3 million bond with a surety of the same amount or an alternative Ksh.400,000 cash bail. The case is scheduled for mention on February 6, 2024.
On Wednesday, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) arrested five suspects, including Peter Ngechu Muhuha (Former Chief Officer, Finance), Adano Salad Kadubo (Former Chief Officer, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development), Abdinassir Ali (Former Head of Treasury), and Accountants Jibril Hassan and Augustine Kariuki Gatebu.
