Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has offered a nuanced reply to Former President Uhuru Kenyatta following his critique of President William Ruto’s governance approach.
Speaking during a joint National Executive Retreat and Parliamentary group consultative meeting in Naivasha on Monday, the DP encouraged Ruto to ensure inclusivity in his policies by occasionally reflecting on past strategies.
“In response to someone suggesting that we should avoid looking back, I want to suggest otherwise. It’s crucial to occasionally glance at the rearview mirror, as the inventor of the motor vehicle didn’t do so in folly,” Gachagua remarked, alluding to Uhuru’s comments made on Saturday.
“In your leadership, Your Excellency, you’ve emphasized the importance of leaving no Kenyan behind. Hence, it’s imperative to consistently reference the past to ensure all Kenyans are accounted for and included.”
Gachagua urged all attendees to align their efforts towards assisting the president in fulfilling his duties.
Uhuru Kenyatta had previously criticized Ruto for dwelling on historical matters rather than addressing current challenges faced by Kenyans. He delivered these remarks at the funeral of former Kipipiri Member of Parliament (MP) Amos Kimunya’s wife over the weekend, urging leaders to focus on future-oriented solutions.
“As a leader entrusted with the steering wheel, one must look ahead, not constantly gaze into the rearview mirror to assess past journeys. Forward-looking leadership is essential. Driving while fixated on the rearview mirror is a recipe for disaster,” Uhuru emphasized.
“The nation requires leaders with forward-thinking visions to effectively address the challenges facing Kenyans.”
