Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua says stepping away from the Deputy President’s office has brought unexpected relief and joy to his family, especially to him and his wife, Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.
Speaking during Pastor Dorcas’s ordination on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Gachagua reflected on how demanding their official roles had been, often leaving them with little time together.

Gachagua admitted that, despite the unceremonious exit, the transition has been refreshing.
“Our humiliating exit from office has been very pleasant to us because we have moved on, and we are happier people,” he said.
His one major regret
The former Deputy President shared that his only disappointment about leaving office was the impact it had on Dorcas’s boychild programme, which had been highly active and far-reaching during her tenure.
“My only regret leaving office is that Dorcas cannot help as many boys as she used to. When she was in office, she saved many boys from death,” he added.
He reminisced about Dorcas’s deep commitment to the boychild agenda, noting that it dominated many of their morning conversations when both still served in public office.
Gachagua joked about how their work schedules kept them apart:
“I saw very little of her. I would go to work, she would go to work; in the evenings she’d sometimes find me already asleep. And every morning she would wake up talking about the boychild.”

Gachagua further revealed that he continues to support Dorcas’s ministry, contributing between 20 and 30 percent of his income to help her sustain the initiative.
“She is not able to do as much as she wanted, but as a family, we support her — maybe 20 to 30 percent of what she used to do,” he said.
