Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hosted a delegation from Embu County at his Wamunyoro residence on Friday, engaging in discussions on various issues affecting the region.
The group, led by Manyatta MP and Young Parliamentarians Chairman Gitonga Mukunji, along with other local leaders, visited Gachagua to discuss matters of importance to the community.
Gachagua emphasized his commitment to a consultative approach, stating, “At Wamunyoro Residence earlier today, I listened to the people of Embu County. I will be with you every step of the way towards a better Kenya where no one is left behind.”
This meeting follows the recent shift in political alliances, highlighted by the April 24 visit of former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, who led a group of Meru region leaders to officially join Gachagua’s camp. Linturi’s presence and the ongoing discussions at Wamunyoro reflect Gachagua’s growing influence in the Mt. Kenya region, despite his earlier political setbacks.
Gachagua has already declared his intention to run for president, provided there are no legal obstacles.
On April 29, he held another important meeting in Nairobi with leaders like former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i to finalize plans for the 2027 elections. This high-profile gathering, part of a broader effort by the opposition to form a national movement, also saw participation from leaders such as Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua (PLP), Eugene Wamalwa (DAP-K), and Mukhisa Kituyi.

Despite his ambitions, Gachagua made it clear that he would support whichever candidate the opposition collectively backs for the presidency. “We are all vying for the presidency, including Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Fred Matiang’i, and Eugene Wamalwa. We will discuss and agree on a candidate to back, and if it’s not me, I will support whoever we choose,” he stated.
