Francis Gaitho to Present Himself at DCI on Monday

Popular social media influencer Francis Gaitho has announced he will voluntarily present himself to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday, January 6, 2025. This follows a public appeal by the DCI, which listed Gaitho as “wanted” for allegedly publishing false information online.

In a tweet posted on Thursday, Gaitho confirmed his intention to report to the DCI headquarters at 10 a.m. on the specified day, accompanied by his legal team.

“I will be presenting myself at DCI headquarters on Monday… at 10am accompanied by my lawyers,” Gaitho said.

Gaitho firmly denied the accusations against him, describing himself as “not a criminal, not a murderer, not a capital offender.” He emphasized his right to freedom of speech, which he said he exercises within the boundaries of the law.

“I just tweet. Freedom of speech is a constitutional entitlement and I exercise it to the best of my ability,” Gaitho added.

The influencer further expressed concerns over what he described as political persecution. He accused authorities of targeting him while allowing other criminals to remain unpunished.

“This latest tweet by DCI is crafted to evoke fear and isolate me from friends and family as they know my lawyers and could have served them direct,” Gaitho wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Gaitho has called on the media to closely follow his case, highlighting the importance of media coverage in ensuring accountability from law enforcement, especially in light of recent concerns over abductions and enforced disappearances.

The DCI’s statement on Thursday claimed that Gaitho had been charged with publishing false information online and had failed to appear in court on December 4, 2024. This failure led to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest.

Despite the allegations, Gaitho remains adamant about his innocence and is preparing for his day in court, asserting that his actions have been consistent with his constitutional rights.

As the situation develops, all eyes will be on Monday’s appearance, as Gaitho’s supporters and critics alike continue to debate the implications of the case for freedom of expression in Kenya.
