Four Relatives Held over Killing of Elderly Father in Nakuru

Police in Bahati, Nakuru County, have arrested four family members in connection with the death of their 73-year-old father.

Peter Mwangi died while receiving treatment after he was reportedly attacked inside his home on February 15.

Officers who responded to the scene recovered two wooden rods stained with blood, believed to have been used in the assault. Blood traces were also found on the floor and on the bed. According to investigators, the suspected weapons had been discarded in a pit latrine within the compound.

Following the discovery, police detained the deceased’s two sons, his wife, and his daughter. Authorities said the four are being questioned as investigations continue.

Mwangi’s body was taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination and other necessary procedures. The motive behind the killing has not yet been established.

In a separate incident, authorities are probing the death of an eight-year-old boy in Ganze, Kilifi County, suspected to have resulted from food poisoning.

Police reported that nine other members of the same family were hospitalised with severe stomach pains after the incident. The family had eaten chapatis prepared for lunch on February 15 before developing symptoms including vomiting and abdominal pain.

They were rushed to hospital, where the boy died, while the other relatives remain admitted in stable condition.

Officials have collected food samples for laboratory analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
