Fog Forces Flight Diversions to Mombasa

Kenya Airways has diverted several flights to Moi International Airport after low visibility disrupted operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

In an update issued on April 10, the airline said the adverse weather conditions had affected both departures and arrivals, leading to delays across its network. Passengers were advised to expect schedule disruptions as the situation continues.

The airline explained that rerouting flights is a standard safety measure to protect passengers and crew when visibility is compromised, noting that safety remains its top priority.

Low visibility—often caused by fog or dense atmospheric conditions—can interfere with take-offs and landings, forcing airlines to redirect aircraft to alternative airports rather than keep them in holding patterns.

Kenya Airways said its operations team is closely monitoring the weather and will adjust flights once conditions improve. The disruption at JKIA, the country’s main aviation hub, is expected to impact both domestic and international travel, particularly for connecting passengers.

The airline apologised for the inconvenience and urged travellers to remain patient as normal operations resume.
