Family Holds Minor’s Body for a Week, Hoping for Resurrection

Authorities in Kariobangi South, Nairobi, have called in counselors to engage with a family who preserved the body of their three-month-old baby boy in their home for a week, nurturing hopes of his resurrection.

The infant passed away due to illness on January 5, but the family opted for prayer, anticipating a miraculous revival.

It wasn’t until January 12 that the police were informed of the situation and subsequently retrieved the remains from the residence. The body has been transferred to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further investigation.

Reports indicate that the child had encountered breathing difficulties at home and was initially taken to a clinic in Huruma. After receiving initial care, the parents were advised to seek comprehensive pediatric treatment at Mama Lucy Hospital. Despite the medical advice, the family chose to rely on prayers until the child’s unfortunate demise.

Police revealed that the parents had been preserving the body with the belief that the child would eventually resurrect.

In a separate incident in Webuye, Bungoma County, a tragic drowning occurred as a two-year-old boy slipped into an open hole in a neighbor’s compound. The hole, originally dug for rainwater storage for brickmaking, became a perilous site where the child drowned while playing with the neighbor’s daughter on Monday.

Upon discovering the incident, neighbors attempted to administer first aid, but their efforts were unsuccessful. The body has been transferred to St. Bakhita Funeral Home, awaiting a postmortem examination. Police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
