Kenya Airways Working to Prevent Disruptions Following Tanzania’s Flight Suspension

Kenya Airways (KQ) is actively addressing the situation to ensure the continuity of flights between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam after Tanzania announced the suspension of all KQ flights into its capital, effective January 22.

The decision by Kenya’s southern neighbor stems from a reciprocity dispute, triggered by Kenya’s rejection of a request for all-cargo flight operations by Air Tanzania, deemed by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority as a breach of Section 4 of the Memorandum of Understanding on Air Services signed between the two countries on November 24, 2016, in Nairobi.

In response to the suspension, Kenya Airways issued a statement on Monday evening, acknowledging its awareness of the Public Notice issued by the Tanzania Civil Aviation Authority on January 15, 2024. The airline expressed its commitment to engaging with Civil Aviation Authorities and relevant government agencies in both Kenya and Tanzania to find a resolution that ensures the uninterrupted operation of flights between Nairobi and Dar es Salaam.

The suspension, effective January 22, is anticipated to have a notable impact on Kenya Airways, which conducts numerous flights each week to and from Tanzania, serving as a crucial link for thousands of travelers between the two nations.
