DCI Seeks 21-Day Detention For Five Suspects In Meru Blogger Sniper’s Murder

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is seeking a 21-day extension to detain five suspects apprehended in connection with the murder of Meru County blogger Daniel Muthiani, also known as Sniper. Court documents state that this period is necessary for the DCI to conclude investigations, emphasizing that additional suspects are yet to be apprehended.

According to the submitted court papers, the investigative team is actively pursuing crucial information, and there are more individuals involved in the murder who are still at large.

The five suspects are identified as Kenneth Mutua Gatiri (alias Gasigi), Fredrick Muruiki Kiugi (alias Pope), Frankline Kimathi (alias Dudu Ras), Timothy Kinoti (alias Timo), and Murangiri Kenneth Guantai (alias Tali).

Investigators reveal that the victim was enticed by the suspects through a phone call, claiming that Governor Mwangaza wanted to meet him. Sniper went missing on December 2, and his body was discovered on December 16, 2023.

A post-mortem examination conducted at the Marimanti Level 4 Hospital mortuary in Tharaka Nithi, Meru County, disclosed that the cause of death was strangulation. Government pathologist Johansen Oduor, who performed the examination, noted marks on Sniper’s neck, indicating oxygen deprivation. Additionally, the victim had fractured ribs and head injuries, suggesting he was strangled before being thrown into a river.

Following Sniper’s death, various leaders condemned the cold-blooded murder, with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki pledging decisive action against those responsible.
