Citizen TV journalist Mwanahamisi Hamadi is among the 184 individuals being recognised as national heroes during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations at Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County.
Hamadi earned the honour for her acclaimed television programme Mwanamke Bomba, which showcases Kenyan women making remarkable contributions to society through innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

In a statement on Monday, October 20, Hamadi expressed gratitude for the recognition, saying it reaffirmed her commitment to serving the community.
“A hero is one who identifies an opportunity to uplift others. I sincerely thank those who deemed us worthy of this honour. It inspires us to continue working for the good of the community and our nation,” she said.
Other distinguished honourees include music producer Clement Rapudo Sijenyi (Clemo), musician Paul Julius Nunda (Jua Cali), Professor Ngugi wa Thiong’o, music producer Ted Josiah, women’s rights advocate Harriette Igonga Chiggai, Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, and Treasury PS Chris Kiptoo.

Football stars Wesley Ogam Rabok, Omar Aboud, Bryne Omondi, and Alpha Onyango of Harambee Stars are also being recognised for their sporting achievements.
Mashujaa Day, observed annually on October 20, honours individuals who have made significant contributions to Kenya’s independence, development, and national identity.
This year’s celebrations are presided over by President William Ruto, with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye serving as the chief guest.
Top government officials, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, are also attending.
